Holy Crap! I am dead!

This is about journeying on foot…. and my NDE (near death experience) Wednesday August 5th, 2015 at around 12:15 pm.

We wake up, we get moving, we get ready to present in public, we commute to work/leisure activities and we are thinking about eye doctor appointments, what we are going to eat for dinner, the work out we should do today, and how to get out of vacuuming the house. Longyearbyen was named after the American John Longyear who set up coal mining operations around 1906. Today it is a university town with people from all over the world including China, South Korea, and Russia. The drab barren lands are punctuated with colourful houses filled with students trying to avoid seasonal affective disorder while plundering the permafrost for clues to our planet’s health…..among other things. I knew we were going to have luck on this trip because Santa Claus hitched a ride home with us.

I talked my dear friend RB into taking a trip to the Arctic with me. She and I share a huge love of adventure travel, and this trip promised to serve up exactly that. The launch point was Svalbard and Spitsbergen Land (you need a splash guard when uttering that name). Continue reading
